D2L Updates

Welcome back to a new semester.  D2L has made some changes to the names of tools and added a My Media tool, as well as new features for the Grades, Groups, Quizzes and Discussions tools.

Tool name changes:

Former Name   Updated Name
Dropbox Assignments
News Announcements
Pager Instant Messages
Edit Course Course Admin
In Content, New Upload/Create
In Content, Add Existing Activities Existing Activities

If you refer to any of the tools within your course materials, you will need to update the language.

For example, if you have instructions in your course outline for students to submit assignments to “Dropbox,” you will need to edit it to read “Assignments tool.”

Other new features:

My Media—You can now use the My Media tool to record, upload, and insert videos into your D2L courses using a simple 2-step process. You can learn more at https://iweb.langara.ca/online-learner/how-to/kaltura/using-kaltura/
MyMedia
Grades—Automatically set the grade item score based on a rubric score
Clicking “Save and record” in the rubric pop-up window will now automatically transfer the Overall Score of a numeric rubric to the learner’s grade (click “Save” if you don’t want to transfer the score).

Quizzes—override the original number of quiz attempts in Special Access
You can now specify the number of quiz attempts for individual learners when using the Special Access tool.

Discussions:

Show forum description in child topics
Forum-level descriptions such as assignment instructions are now also visible within the forum’s topics.

Score rubrics when assessing discussion posts
You can now score associated rubrics at the same time as you are scoring a learner’s topic posts. The links to rubrics will no longer appear on the Assess Topic screen by default; rather, you have the option of displaying or hiding the rubric links at the top of the main grid.

Discussions – Sum of post scores
The Sum of post scores option has been added to the Select a calculation method drop-down list. This option sums up the discussion posts’ scores for an entire topic. You can use this option when setting up grading in Discussions.
