Electronic Health Library of BC

Langara Library is now a member of the Electronic Health Library of BC (e-HLbc), a consortium of 26 post-secondary institutions, all BC health authorities, 3 government ministries, the college of Physicians and Surgeons of BC, and other health professional organizations.  Our membership in this consortium provides Langara users with eight valuable core resources:

What does e-HLbc mean to Langara College?

In 2005, prior to e-HLbc’s inception, Langara students, educators, and staff had very limited access to health information.  We had subscriptions to three databases crucial to general undergraduate teaching (Biomedical Reference Collection, CINHAL, and PscyINFO), but laced access to critical indexes like Medline and other clinical information from databases like Evidence Based Medicine Reviews and LWW Total Access Collection.  These resources are necessary to Langara students and educators working in the health and allied health fields.

Since joining e-HLbc, Langara Library users have gained access to:

  • Approximately 3, 137 full text journals
  • More than 360,000 records to evidence-based medicine reviews
  • 11,300 abstracts with subjects spanning the continuum of the health and allied health fields.

It is crucial that health students are provided access to the same resources they will rely upon as practitioners.  In the coming years, in partnership with e-HLbc, Langara Library will continue to provide core resources to meet the needs of our students as they transition between education and practice.
