The Future of Libraries on CBC

Some Monday morning listening:

In recent weeks, the CBC has hosted several segments pertaining to the future of libraries. Today, The Current delved into “Designing libraries that are relevant in the digital age,” as part of their “By Design” series. The segment focuses on the brand new Halifax Public Library, which has been recognized as one of the world’s most beautiful libraries, as well as the shifting priorities of library architects as collections evolve into digital formats.

The September 28, 2014 episode of CBC’s Cross Country Checkup featured a townhall discussion on the topic of “What’s the future of the library in the age of Google?

Hosted by Peter Mansbridge, the show delved into questions such as:

  • Can libraries serve as a sort of public living room for cities?
  • Do you need a better local library …or more access to a global network …or both?
  • Is the answer to build newer bigger libraries or start thinking in whole new ways about how to connect people to the information they need?
