Did you know Langara now subscribes to a huge feature film collection? Criterion on Demand makes thousands of feature films available for streaming or download 24/7, from both on and off-campus (with Langara ID).
The collection includes:
- More than 2,600 major motion pictures (largely Hollywood films)
Examples: An American in Paris, Monsoon Wedding
- Approximately 135 foreign language films with English subtitles
Examples: A Separation, Pan’s Labyrinth
- More than 100 documentary features
Examples: Food Inc., Winged Migration
Three easy ways to find films in the Criterion on Demand collection:
1. Use the Quick Topic Search to search by title, or to sort the collection by language and subject to get a shorter list of films:

3. You can also browse the collection via the Criterion on Demand website, but you must use the library catalog links to films to play them off campus. Criterion website links will not play from off campus.
This means that you can use the Criterion on Demand website to discover films, but you will need to search for them by title in our catalog in order to play them from off campus.
(This admittedly isn’t the most elegant system, but licensing restrictions make it necessary).

Technical Note:
In order to play films, the user must have the free Silverlight browser plug-in installed. Silverlight is compatible with a wide variety of operating systems and browsers including:
- Internet Explorer 8+, Firefox 12+, Chrome 12+, Safari 4+
- Windows 7+, Mac 10.5+
Not every browser and OS combination is compatible. Please see the System Requirements tab on http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/Get-Started/Install/Default.aspx for more details.
