50 Mobile Apps for Higher Education

At the recent Internet Librarian conference in Monterey, two librarians gave a great presentation on 50 useful mobile apps for higher education. While the focus of the presentation was on apps (both Android and iOS) that librarians can to help people find information, the list is definitely useful to anyone working in higher ed.

Some examples:

  • DuckDuckGo–Browser that does not track you or filter answers  (Understand why you should understand and potentially avoid filters by reading this recent post on the filter bubble).
  • GoodReads–A book lovers app that combines book discovery with asocial aspect.
  • World Factbook–A mobile version of CIA World Factbook. It provides facts, information on the history, people, government, economy, geography, and more for over 250 world countries.

The full list of apps (most free!) is here.
