Weaving Wednesdays: Cedar Hearts and Roses with Rita Point Kompst (TCDC Event)

Rita will be back in November to offer faculty another chance to weave cedar that she harvests and prepares. The centre of each heart will have a pouch for a special memento. Please bring your special keepsake to the workshop to place in your cedar heart.  Rita says, “I love weaving hearts; they are quite special! We will also make cedar roses!”

Rita is a Coast Salish weaver and grew up on the traditional territory of the Musqueam located on unceded lands in Vancouver, BC. Her artist journey began after experiencing personal loses, including the passing of her father Joe Becker—former Musqueam Chief and a well-known wood carver and artist. Rita teaches throughout the Lower Mainland and says, “cedar weaving is one of the best things we can do to heal!”
