PowerPoint – How to Create Accessible PowerPoint Slide Presentations (hybrid)

May 22 @ 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM PDT

When creating presentations, it is important to remember that not everyone perceives, understands, and engages with information in the same way. Your audience may include individuals with visual, auditory, motor, and/or cognitive disabilities. For example, a visually impaired viewer will not perceive purely visual content while a viewer that is d/Deaf or hard of hearing will miss out on content that is audio only. More accessible presentations will assist everyone by providing better organized content that is easier to read and perceive.

An accessible PowerPoint presentation will not require you to omit information or content types. Accessibility is all about providing content in formats that can be interpreted by everyone, whether they use a screen reader, closed captions, or are sitting at the back of the room. By understanding and using the accessibility features of PowerPoint you can create content that can be consumed by everyone.

Join this workshop to learn the fundamentals of improving the accessibility of your PowerPoint slide presentation.

After participating in this lab, participants should be able to:

  • Choose and use accessible templates.
  • Create accessible slideshow and slide structures.
  • Select accessible fonts and font styling.
  • Employ good colour contrast.
  • Include text alternatives for links, images, charts, embedded media, and other visuals.
  • Select better methods of sharing your PowerPoint.
  • Use the built-in accessibility checker.
