Learning Lab: Improve the Accessibility of Existing PowerPoint Slides (in-person)

May 27 @ 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM PDT

Using Microsoft PowerPoint is an easy and effective way to present information for a lecture in a class or a work presentation. However, there are steps that presenters need to ensure students with visual impairments and those who rely on assistive technology can access the material.

This hands-on interactive learning opportunity is a follow-up to EdTech’s How to Create Accessible PowerPoint Slide Presentations workshop which outlines the steps for creating a new presentation that is accessible. Knowing that many of us already have a large number of existing slide presentations that may not be accessible, this lab focuses on correcting common accessibility mistakes.

After participating in this lab, participants should be able to:

  • Avoid the most common PowerPoint accessibility mistakes.
  • Use the accessibility checker and make corrections.
  • Apply templates.
  • Apply structure.
  • Select accessible fonts and font styling.
  • Employ accessible use of colour.
  • Add alternative text to images.
  • Write meaningful hyperlink text.

This lab is a participatory session. EdTech Advisors and Specialists as well as our Assistive Technologist will be on hand to answer questions and provide advice.

We will provide PowerPoint slides to fix. Participants must bring a laptop or a tablet.
