Go2K: Teaching AI Literacy: Strategies For Improved Critical Thinking, Ethical Usage & Meaningful Engagement

March 21 @ 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM PDT

The rapid integration of AI into education necessitates that faculty help students understand and effectively use AI. Faculty play a critical role in preparing students for a future deeply connected with AI, enhancing critical thinking, interdisciplinary learning, and responsible use of this transformative technology.

This session will present strategies and resources for faculty to foster AI literacy in students. As AI becomes increasingly relevant in education, we’ll focus on basic AI concepts, emphasizing classroom activities and assessments that faculty can adapt to their specific subjects to enhance content knowledge and AI literacy. We will introduce practical teaching strategies to foster critical thinking about AI and enable students to engage meaningfully with AI tools. The session will also cover using AI to improve learning experiences, ethical considerations in AI use, and combining disciplinary learning with AI literacy.

Through practical tips and strategies, we will make AI more accessible for faculty to encourage them to include AI literacy in their curriculums, thereby making students more informed and involved. We will provide resources for lesson planning, project ideas for practical AI exploration, rubrics for assessing AI literacy, and checklists to promote and verify effective, ethical, and responsible use of AI for academic endeavors. Attendees will gain theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and resources for immediate use in teaching, preparing students for a future where AI is central.

Objectives

  • Implement effective teaching strategies that integrate AI concepts into their curricula.
  • Utilize provided resources for fostering critical thinking and practical AI literacy.
  • Assess and promote ethical and effective AI use in educational settings.
