Go2K: Friday 5 Live! Motivation Myths: Rethinking Strategies For Student Success

April 19 @ 9:00 AM - 9:45 AM PDT

Overview

Struggling to help motivate students or help them understand the concept of motivation? Join our conversation with student success experts Dr. Amy Baldwin and Dr. Laurie Hazard as we examine strategies for supporting students. Amy and Laurie will share their firsthand experiences and examine how motivation can be cultivated and sustained, even in the face of challenges. We will take a look at the psychological underpinnings of motivation, discuss the importance of setting clear, achievable goals, and the transformative potential of a supportive community. Join us for what promises to be a dynamic, fast-paced and informative discussion!

Questions for the Experts:

  1. Let’s start off with simply defining motivation and what are the psychological underpinnings of this concept?
  2. How can faculty and staff foster a growth mindset among students to enhance their motivation and resilience in facing academic challenges?
  3. What about disengaged or students who seem uninterested – what are the most effective strategies you’ve found for motivating these students?
  4. How do you tailor motivational techniques to meet the diverse needs and backgrounds of students in a college setting?
  5. Can you share examples of how technology and digital tools have been used successfully to enhance student motivation and engagement?
  6. What are some common misconceptions about motivating college students, and how can educators overcome these to better support their students?
