Research shows that students learn better when they are actively engaged in learning activities. In this experiential workshop, we will look at ways to engage our students through active learning strategies and learn how to select or design strategies that align with our course learning outcomes and assessments.
After participating in this workshop, you will be able to…
– define active learning and describe a number of examples.
– describe some of the research that supports the use of active learning.
– identify ways to enrich more traditional methods of content delivery with active learning strategies.
– integrate participatory learning activities that align with your course learning outcomes and assessment into course design.
You will have the opportunity to start applying concepts and strategies to your own course, so please bring a copy of the course learning outcomes or your course outline, and any assessments you currently, or plan to, use in your course.
