CURRICULUM

See https://langara.ca/programs-and-courses/programs/library-information-technology/program-curriculum.html
Students may follow the curriculum that was in place during their starting semester or the one that is in place during their graduating semester. Exceptions may apply but graduation exemption is available by acquiring the program Chair’s approval. Contact gradeval@langara.ca to find out which curriculum to follow. The following curriculum is currently in effect:

  • General electives (x3): Any three Langara College courses that are eligible to be used for a Langara College credential. Preparatory courses are excluded. Recommended courses are those with content that complements our program, such as Canadian history, political sciences, Aboriginal studies, computing systems, or web development.
  • Support Courses (x4): Non-LIBR courses specified in the curriculum (eg. BCAP, ENGL, single elective from the list of 22 on Canadian, Indigenous, and business topics).
  • LIBR Core Courses (x10): LIBR 1111, 1118, 1120, 1219, 1228, 2328, 2411, 2416, 2418, 2419
  • LIBR Special Topics Courses (x3)

Students may take any sections of the support and elective courses. The order in which students take the core and special topics courses can be adjusted to fit students’ schedules. Please check the curriculum for details on prerequisites that may apply. WAITING LIST

If a course section is full, there may be the option to put your name on the waitlist. When a seat becomes available, you will be notified through your myLangara (Student Information System) ‘Waitlisted Courses’ page. A notification will also be sent to both your myLangara and preferred email address but don’t rely on email alone since an incorrectly entered email address or any delays in the email system could result in your missing a registration offer. Check your ‘Waitlisted Courses’ page by logging in to myLangara regularly (daily) to monitor your waitlist position.

When a seat is offered, you have until the notification expiry date/time (approximately 24 hours) to complete the registration process in your Student Information account. If no action is taken on a waitlist offer, you will be automatically dropped from the waitlist and the seat will be given to the next student on the list.

Please visit the Waitlisting Information page for further details:
http://www.langara.bc.ca/reg-guide/when-you-register/waitlist-for-courses.html

If you have any questions regarding waitlisting or registration, please contact the Registration Helpline or Registrar and Enrolment Services.

OVERRIDES FOR LIBR COURSES

If you are NOT able to register or waitlist LIBR course(s) in the system, you will need to email the Department Chair with the following information for approval to register:

  • Your full name
  • Your Langara ID
  • Course information: number, section (e.g. LIBR 1111, W01)
  • Course CRN (5-digit unique number of the course section)
  • Reason for needing the course and the override

Any missing information in the email will delay receiving an override from the Chair. When a seat is available, you will be notified by email and have 24 hours to complete the registration.
