Bike to Work Week

Bike to Work Week is twice yearly event organized by HUB, Your Cycling Connection. Formerly known as the Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition, HUB provides bike education to people of all ages, advocates for improvements to cycling infrastructure and works to get more people cycling, more often. The next Bike to Work Week is Monday May 25 to Sunday May 31.

Bike to Work Week is a workplace wellness, community building, and sustainable transportation program aimed at encouraging people to bicycle to work for one week with the goal that they will continue to commute by bicycle after the week is over.

Langara College has fielded a team of commuter cyclists in every Bike to Work Week since the event’s inception in 2007. Collectively, our team has cycled over 16,000 kilometres in 14 Bike to Work Weeks and prevented over 3,550 kilograms of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere

Langara College has also hosted a Celebration Station every Bike to Work Week. A stopping place for cyclists on their way to or from work, a Celebration Station provides free refreshments, bike tune-ups, bike maps, prizes and comradery.

These Bike to Work Week Celebration Stations have been run by volunteers from the College and HUB. They have received donations of prizes and refreshments from Facilities Services, Chartwells, Continuing Studies, Langara College Bookstore, Tim Hortons, VanCycle Mobile Bicycle Shop, Burgoo and BikeHike Adventures.

The next Bike to Work Week is Monday May 25 to Sunday May 31. Cyclists can join the Langara College team and log their bicycle commutes at https://bikehub.ca/bike-to-work. Everyone logging a bicycle ride during Bike to Work Week qualifies for prizes from HUB (including bicycles and a trip to Europe) and from Langara College (Mountain Equipment Coop gift cards).

Langara College’s Bike to Work Week Celebration Station happens on Monday May 25 from 4 pm to 6 pm along the Ontario Street Bikeway at 50th Avenue). It is one of almost 50 Celebration Stations throughout Metro Vancouver during Bike to Work Week.
