Rethinking How We Assess Learning

How do you assess student learning? Why do you do it this way? In this session, we will talk about how assessment design influences student motivation, engagement and approaches to learning. We will introduce several ways that learning can be assessed and give participants the opportunity to collaboratively re-imagine more traditional assessments.

After participating in this workshop, participants should be able to:

– explain how assessment design influences students’ approach to learning.
– describe several different types of assessments.
– reflect on and analyze their current approach to assessment design.
– identify alternative ways to assess learning.
– align assessments to course learning outcomes.

In this interactive workshop, you will have the opportunity to start applying concepts and strategies to your own course, so please bring a copy of the course learning outcomes or your course outline, and any assessments you currently, or plan to, use in your course.
