This Spring, the Teaching and Curriculum Development Centre (TCDC) will be hosting a book club on Unraveling Faculty Burnout: Pathways to Reckoning and Renewal by Rebecca Pope-Ruark, PhD. The book will provoke deep thinking on this relevant, timely topic. Pope-Ruark will be one of the guest speakers at this year’s Mini Conference at Langara.
Burnout is a syndrome that negatively impacts productivity and both mental and physical health. It should not be ignored or downplayed. Burnout has been a significant issue for post-secondary faculty, seemingly increasing its intensity and grip ever since the 2020 pandemic.
We invite you to take a pause and assess your relationship with work and the overwork culture. With Pope-Ruark’s compelling work fuelling our conversations, we will discover ways to cope with and mitigate burnout.
The club will meet over Zoom Wednesdays, from 4:30 to 5:30pm, from March 15th to April 26th, 2023. We welcome all levels of engagement and participation.
Digital copies of Unraveling Faculty Burnout: Pathways to Reckoning and Renewal are available at Langara Library. TCDC has purchased a few copies of the book as well. If you have any questions, please contact us at tcdc@langara.ca.
