Mobile Learning project for a regular in-class French course
Blog: “Qu’est-ce que ça veut dire?” (What does it mean?)
Learning objective:
Throughout the semester, students will take pictures, record sound clips or video of fragments of French text or speech that they don’t understand and post them on their own Courseware blogs. Students will read each others’ blogs and try to explain them.
These blogs will help develop the practice of writing, reading and exchanging ideas in French. It will also serve to keep students engaged in the course.
I hope that students will also gain a greater appreciation for the written word and be encouraged to read further and continue writing in French well after the course.
How: The class will be divided in two groups; Group 1 posts on the blog, Group 2 posts comments. Students will use their mobile devices and be asked to post something once a week, alternating groups each week.
If students do not have a mobile device, they can use a digital camera or use concrete objects (such as a photocopy) to share their findings with other students.
Other uses for mobile devices:
-When introducing new vocabulary or reviewing for tests, I plan to record the correct pronunciation of vocabulary or other useful explanations (as I present them in class) and post them on a podcast available in Blackboard.
