Pulling Together 2: Indigenous Epistemologies & Pedagogies

Event Chairs: Jennifer Ward and Carmen Larsen

DETAILS:

Indigenizing and decolonizing our curriculum is a journey of learning, unlearning and relearning. Join us for this 2nd session in our 3-part series as we collaboratively explore ways to “integrate, honour, and respect Indigenous culture, history, and knowledge in curriculum” (Antoine et al., 2018).

Following and building on Sections 2 & 4 in Pulling Together: A Guide for Curriculum Developers (2018) by Asma-na-hi Antoine, Rachel Mason, Roberta Mason, Sophia Palahicky, and Carmen Rodriguez de France, we will discuss Indigenous epistemologies and pedagogies and how we might incorporate diverse sources of Indigenous knowledge into our courses.

Delivery Mode: Zoom (synchronous); Brightspace (asynchronous)

Time Commitment: 2 hour synchronous session (once / month) and 1 hour each week asynchronous. Total hours 5 hours / month for 3 months.

Expectations of Participants: Please note that we aim to create a safe space for folks to share their ideas, wonderings, and questions. We want all participants to feel as though they can share without judgment with the understanding that we are all learning and that we don't know what we don't know. Our collective learning space will follow sharing circle protocol:
1. Listen to one another without interrupting
2. Whatever participants share in our learning space remains in our learning space (we aren't going to share outside of our group)
3. We will commit to spending the time with one another and will limit outside interruptions
4. We will honour one another by being mindful of time and allowing everyone a chance to share
