TCDC’s Course Design Series is Back This August

No matter how much teaching experience one has, course design is complex and can be quite daunting.

The TCDC Course Design Series will help instructors improve their knowledge in three key areas: Backward Design, Assessment, and Active Learning. In three workshops of 90 minutes, we will explore and use design tools and strategies that make course design faster and more effective, discover ways to make assessment planning easier while improving student learning, and learn to implement participatory strategies to increase student engagement and learning.

Great for new or experienced instructors, you can participate in one, two, or all three workshops although we strongly recommend registering for all three parts. These are action-oriented sessions, so you will be able to apply what you learn here to your own courses right away. We recommend you bring your course learning outcomes to work with. If you don’t know your course learning outcomes, contact your department chair.

We will be offering the online workshops throughout the second week of August 2022. Visit the registration pages below to learn more about each session of the series.

Course Design Series I: Backward Design (Aug. 9)

Course Design Series II: Assessment (Aug. 10)

Course Design Series III: Active Learning (Aug. 11)

  • Modelling learner-centred pedagogical approaches and tech-enhanced learning
  • Daily challenges to practice skills and make course design changes
  • Greater emphasis on universal design for learning and inclusivity
  • Demonstration of new Brightspace template options

Set to run the week following our Course Design series, the asynchronous mini-course includes three synchronous sessions scheduled on Aug. 16, 23 and 30. Learn more and sign-up on the TCDC/EdTech calendar if you haven’t participated yet or would like to refresh your skills.
