Many instructional faculty and staff are looking for summer PD opportunities to learn about effective online teaching practices, and TCDC is here to help.
TCDC is offering a 3-day workshop Online Course Design and Delivery at Langara. In this 3-day course, you will learn how to design an online course and engage students through effective teaching strategies and practices. You will also experience from a student’s perspective what online learning entails. Dates for this course are June 23-25, July 7-9, and August 5-7.
In addition, workshops and webinars are continually added to the TCDC/EdTech calendar at https://iweb.langara.ca/tcdc/calendar/. Be sure to check this page regularly for new sessions.
Other PD opportunities you may want to consider include the following courses offered at Royal Roads University, Vancouver Community College, and BCcampus.
Royal Roads University
RRU’s Facilitating Learning Online (FLO) Fundamentals course is being offered twice this summer: July 6 to August 9 and August 24 to September 27. The course is $495. For more information and to register, go to https://secure.royalroads.ca/cscourses/facilitating-learning-online-fundamentals-online
From their website: Facilitating Learning Online (FLO) – Fundamentals is a five-week online course that is focused on developing teaching skills for asynchronous online learning. Over the course of the five weeks, you will learn strategies to create active learning environments online for your students, facilitate or co-facilitate a pre-designed learning activity, and receive feedback from your peers. FLO Fundamentals gives you the opportunity to develop your online facilitation skills with other new and experienced facilitators. This workshop is designed for core faculty, associate faculty, and staff in facilitation or support roles of online or blended courses, regardless of experience level.
Vancouver Community College
VCC’s PIDP 3320 Facilitate Learning Online is a 6-week course with two summer offerings: July 6-August 14 or August 4-September 11. The cost is $336
From their website: Facilitating Learning Online Fundamental provides participants with the opportunity to facilitate a short, pre-designed online learning activity for other course participants, usually with a small group. Online tools such as polls and forums will be used to facilitate learning activities. Participants will practice providing useful feedback in an online setting to other participants as they facilitate their own activities. Participants will also engage in reflection each week focusing on what has been learned and how it might be applied to other contexts.
Check out their 1-minute video description.
PIDP 3320 is normally offered as part of the PIDP program; however, participants can register for this as a stand-alone course. To register, please contact VCC’s office to register.
