Policies you should know

Student Code of Conduct – E1003
The College requires all students conduct themselves in a manner that promotes an environment characterized by civility, individual integrity, social responsibility and respect. The Code of Conduct outlines behaviour that is prohibited while registered as a student of the College. Students may be subject to penalties up to and including suspension from the College, for violation the Student Code of Conduct.

Academic Conduct – F1004
Students are expected to undertake their academic endeavors in a way that demonstrates honestly, integrity and the pursuit of learning. Cheating, plagiarism and fraud are serious offences. The College will investigate allegations that a student has engaged in Academic Misconduct. Where necessary and appropriate, the College will impose penalties.

Involuntary Leave of Absence – E1006
To ensure the work and study environment supports the health, safety and well-being of all members of the College Community, the College will address concerning student behaviour with support efforts and, if necessary, may require a student to withdraw from the College.

Computer and Computing System Use – B5002
Students are granted access through their student account, to Langara’s Computing System. The purpose of this access is to support students’ academic endeavors. The computing system is intended for academic purposes and minor, incidental use only. Students who misuse the College’s computing systems will be considered to have violated the Student Code of Conduct and may be subject to penalties up to and including suspension from the College.

Electronic Communication – B4002
Langara College has custody and control of all electronic records maintained on the College’s computing systems. The electronic records, including email, are the sole property of the College. Students are advised to retain a personal copy of all student work that may be saved to the College server. Students will be held accountable when the creation, storage or use electronic records violate this policy.

Human Rights – B3008
Every student has the right to study under conditions that are free of discrimination or harassment based on the prohibited grounds listed in the B.C. Human Rights Code. Students also have the right to the equal protection and the equal benefit of all College policies and practices without discrimination. Where a student believes they have been subject to actions that violate this policy, they may make a complaint using the procedures outlined in the policy.

Appeal of Final Grade – E2006
The College allows a student to appeal their final grade through both an informal and a formal appeal process. Mid-term and course work marks are not appealable. The informal process requires the submission of an Informal Appeal of Final Grade Form to the course instructor. If a student disagrees with the outcome of the informal process, they may request a formal appeal by submitting an Informal Appeal of Final Grade Form to the Registrar’s Office within the time limits set out in the policy.

Services for Students with Disabilities – E1005
The College makes courses and programs accessible to students with disabilities in accordance with the Human Rights Code (BC) and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The College provides reasonable accommodation to students with disabilities on the basis of current documentation. Students are required to self-identify and bring requests for accommodation to the attention of the Department allowing for adequate time for response. Accommodation provided by the College does not alter a student’s obligation to meet College admission, prerequisite, and academic requirements.

Academic Standing – Academic Probation and Academic Suspension – E2008
Students registered in courses/programs at Langara College are expected to achieve a Minimum Academic Standard and will be placed on Academic Probation or Academic Suspension if they fail to do so. Academic Probation and Academic Suspension standings are permanently noted on official transcripts. To return to Good Standing, a student on Academic Probation or Academic Suspension must achieve the Minimum Academic Standard in their next semester.
