Meet Our Facilitators

Aaliyah

Hello! My name is Aaliyah, but you can also call me Lia. I am a 2nd year Psychology student who loves hanging out in cafes or in the library to study. My passion for understanding and connecting with people sparked my interest in Psychology and Sociology. I have taken both introductory SOCI courses, and I find them challenging yet interesting. I really like learning and studying with peers because I find that it is helpful to go over difficult concepts with peers. When we explain concepts and understand them in our terms, it’s easier to retain the information. So, if you’re like me who enjoys studying and learns better with friends, come to my Peer+ session for SOCI 1121! I look forward to seeing you there!

Avery

Hello everyone! My name is Avery (he/him) and I am currently a bioinformatics student here at Langara, originally from Toronto. I used to be a psychology major, but switched to biology when I took BIOL 1111 on a whim and had a blast! I truly think biology is one of the most fascinating fields of science you can immerse yourself in, and I hope to help you discover your own passion or interest in this quite diverse subject. Hopefully during my Peer+ sessions we can both have fun and reinforce the concepts learned in class, as combining those two elements is key to success. Feel free to stop by or chat with me anytime, and I look forward to getting to know all of you!

Daniel (Senior Facilitator)

Hi everyone, I’m a second-year business student that’s passionate about helping others and sharing my insights on how to get through difficult courses at Langara. I’ve facilitated marketing and accounting classes in previous terms and I’m excited to be facilitating principles of microeconomics (ECON 1220) for the fall 2020 term! If you’re taking microeconomics this term and want to do some studying and score higher on that next test head to the session schedule tab on the left! Outside of college, my interests include being a huge fan of history, running and exercise, and learning about cryptocurrencies and stock markets. I’m looking forward to meeting you and helping you through this course!

Giulia

Hello dear fellow students! My name is Giulia (pronounced Julia), I am about to finish my second year in Psychology; I aim to finish my BA and then take a master’s degree in psychopharmacology. Neuroscience, psychopharmacology, and how the human mind works, fascinate and intrigue me. I have a great passion for Psychology, and truly I like to talk about it and do research.  In my time here at Langara I had the pleasure of working with many different people on a few projects, one of which I presented in a conference this past May.

I will be a facilitator for the first time ever this fall, and I cannot wait to meet you all! If you like psychology and have questions, concepts you want to review, or want to chat about psychology, experiments, or anything else, please come by! I like to work smart, not hard; I prioritize understanding over memorizing, in a calm and possibly fun manner. I am looking forward to seeing you.

Isabel

Hi Everyone! My name is Isabel. This is my second year on the criminology program and it has been an awesome journey for me. I have done core courses on criminology as well as other courses on sociology, psychology, philosophy and a lot more. As a newcomer when I first started here, sometimes it could feel a bit overwhelming because of the numerous new concepts and ideas that I had not come across before. I have found that different ways work for different ideas, and when they make sense to me, it will be much easier to carry on. For the coming Spring 2024, I am facilitating CRIM. We can share our learning experiences and thoughts in our Peer+ sessions, where we can try to work something out together to get things going more easily. I look forward to seeing you in this coming term!

Jaimie

Hi everyone, my name is Jaimie. I’m a passionate and driven student who enjoys balancing my school life with friends, food, and the gym.

This fall I look forward to going into my second year as a full-time student in the Peace and Conflict Studies program at Langara. Although I’m not majoring in psychology, I did complete both introductory psychology courses during my first year and I had a really positive experience with both of them. Therefore, I’m very excited to have the opportunity to be a Psychology 1115 Peer Supported Learning Facilitator so that we can all create a positive experience together. I look forward to getting to know everyone through the peer+ sessions and will aim to empower you all with increased confidence and motivation throughout the course!

Mohit (Senior Facilitator)

Hello peers! I’m Mohit, a second-year biology major who is enthusiastic about providing assistance to others as well as sharing my experience and knowledge of how one can succeed and ace in various Langara courses. In biology, my keen interest lies in ecology and environment-related things. BIOL 1115, which I’ll be a facilitator for this fall, is an interesting course that provides students an introduction to various fields in biology. If you want to improve your grades, strengthen or develop useful academic skills, head to one of my peer+ sessions. I’m looking forward to seeing you all and having fun while we are strengthening our knowledge!

Pablo

Hello everyone! My name is Pablo Kichik, my pronouns are he/him and I’m an international student from Mexico currently in my second year as a Political Science student. I took both ECON 1220 and 1221 in my second term, they may seem like two hard and complicated courses, but as long as you develop a proper understanding of the basic ideas and concepts, they shouldn’t be too hard. I will be helping other students in my PSL+ study sessions where we’ll go through the key and hardest concepts throughout the term. I’m really excited to help other students and I’m looking forward to meeting all of you at my sessions!

Parsa

Hi everyone! My name is Parsa, and my pronouns are they/them, she/her. I am a second-year biology student and intend to pursue the medical field. Outside of school, I enjoy hiking, sports, and volunteering. In biology, my interest involves invertebrate zoology. I will be facilitating BIOL 1115, an interesting course that covers general concepts in biology with a strong emphasis on evolution. I am excited about the chance to facilitate biology courses as it allows me to share my knowledge with other students and help them improve their grades. I look forward to exploring the world of biology with you and hope to see you in our Peer+ sessions!

Rhys

Hey! My name is Rhys (like Reese’s Pieces). I am a graduate of Studio 58’s theatre program and have a deep interest in microbiology. I understand learning can sometimes feel like a burden. I’m here to make the process fun again or kindle a new passion you never thought you had. I will be running support sessions for BIOL 1215 with an emphasis on inclusivity, enthusiasm, and creativity. I believe every student has the potential to excel when given the right encouragement and support. Let’s rediscover the joy in learning!

Sophia

Hi folks! My name is Sophia, and my pronouns are she/her. I’ve attended Langara for a year completing the prerequisites for the nursing program. I enjoy going to the gym and finding new nourishing recipes to try when I’m not studying. I’m facilitating the fall term for Biol 1111. If you have questions about course material, need extra support or just want a study buddy then Peer+ sessions is the place for you. I believe there is great value in group studying and that everyone can benefit from attending Peer+ sessions. I’m delighted to host exciting Peer+ sessions this term, where we can collaborate and overcome challenges together. Hope to see you there!

Vero (Senior Facilitator)

Hello Langara folks! My name is Vero, and I go by she/her pronouns. I am currently in the Langara Criminology program and I have a BA in Psychology from UBC. I am facilitating the CRIM 1115 course, Introduction to the Criminal Justice System. I drink too much coffee, I love horror and sci-fi shows and I have just started playing tennis! My interests lie in the overlap of Sociology, Criminology and Psychology, and I hope to pursue a career in that interdisciplinary field. I enjoyed CRIM 1115 and I am looking forward to having engaging sessions with you this term!

Ying (Senior Facilitator)

Hello, fellow students! My name is Ying, and I am a third-year business student who took psychology as an elective in 2019. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to help others get as much from this course as possible. It can seem like information overload at first, but psychology is applicable in many areas of life. Why not make the most of what you learn? I also volunteer as a literacy tutor, and I find that helping others learn allows me to understand the material more thoroughly—so I am happy to support your psychology learning. In my spare time, I like to cook and go birdwatching when it is nice outside. I look forward to learning with you during our Peer+ sessions!

Zeynep

Hello everyone! I’m Zeynep, and I’m a Commerce & Business Studies student here at Langara. I took ECON 1220 and 1221 during my first year, and my experiences taking these courses have ignited a passion in me for economics! After taking these courses and coming to our Peer+ sessions, I hope the same thing happens for you too! Together, we will study the material of these courses the way an A grade student does, learn and implement strategies that will improve your time management, retention & understanding, and even your general approach to academics, and finally, create a safe and productive space for all of you to be able to get the most out of these courses. See you there!
