Designing Assessments in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

May 31, 2023 @ 12:30 PM - 2:00 PM PDT

Session Outcomes:

  • Define authentic and renewable assessments and identify its characteristics
  • Evaluate the current state of your course assessment methods and locate opportunities to shift to more authentic and renewable strategies
  • Plan authentic and renewable assessments that align with the course learning outcomes
  • Explain to students the ‘what’, ‘how’, and ‘why’ of their authentic assessment

Description:

The arrival of ChatGPT and other generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools has caused educators to rethink how our students are demonstrating their learning through our assessments.

This working session will introduce the current state of generative AI as it relates to assessment design. Then, participants will explore assessment strategies that ask students to perform real-world, relevant, complex and meaningful demonstration of their course learning outcomes.

Instructors are encouraged to bring assessments they are using with students to share and discuss with fellow faculty.
