Copyright in the 2015 federal budget

On Tuesday, the Conservative government delivered the 2015 federal budget. The following two changes to copyright are hidden within the 500+ page document:

(1) Introduce amendments to the Copyright Act that will allow Canada to join the Marrakesh Treaty. These reforms would improve access to adapted materials for approximately 1 million blind and visually impaired Canadians.

(2) Extend the term of copyright protection on sound recordings and performances from 50 to 70 years.

As you might guess, the second change in particular has garnered significant buzz. For an informed analysis, see this story from the National Post.
