Industry demands have also prompted several schools to launch new initiatives specifically tailored to fill projected skilled labour gaps.

Langara, for instance, becomes the first college in Western Canada this fall to offer qualifications in the rap-idly emerging field of bioinformatics, a discipline that combines the application of computer science and information technology principles to biology and medicine.
