You already know that breakout rooms will allow you to split your Zoom meeting in separate sessions – sharing your screen, responding to requests for help, and broadcasting to breakout rooms, but did you know that you can keep track of breakout room activity without even joining the rooms?
Monitoring Zoom Breakout Rooms
Zoom hosts and co-hosts can monitor activity in breakout rooms to see how active participants are:
- View activity status: On the Rooms tab in the Breakout Rooms panel, hosts and co-hosts can see which participants are in each room and icons that indicate their activity status.
- See who is sharing their screen: Hosts and co-hosts can see which participants are sharing their screen.
- See who is speaking: Hosts and co-hosts can see which participant is speaking.
- See reactions: Hosts and co-hosts can see any reactions from participants.
- See non-verbal feedback: Hosts and co-hosts can see any non-verbal feedback from participants.
Once breakout rooms are open, hosts and co-hosts can view the level of activity in each breakout room to get an idea of how active the participants are.
On the Rooms tab in the Breakout Rooms panel, you can view which participants are in each room, along with icons that designate if their audio or video is on, if they’re sharing their screen, and if they have any active reactions or nonverbal feedback. This feature can be particularly useful for instructors looking for student engagement in breakout room sessions.
To access this feature, look at the dialog box for your open breakout rooms. Icons for reactions, screensharing, microphone and video status will be displayed next to each participant’s name.
If a participant’s video or microphone has a red strikethrough, that participant has the feature off. If a participant’s microphone is turned on, the microphone will be partially filled when they speak.
