The course navigation bar includes common tools by default that you may or may not want to use, or to be visible in your course. For example the Assessments tab on the navigation bar contains a link to Quizzes, Self-Assessments and Surveys by default. You may or may not use any of these items. You will want to de-activate these tools so they do not appear in the drop down listing on the course navigation bar. Alternatively, there may be an item in the course tools listing that you want to use, in which case it will have to be activated in order to be added to the course.

In order to activate or de-activate a course tool,

  1. Click Course Admin on the right of the course navigation bar, then choose Tools from the Administration section at the bottom of the list.
  2. On the Tools page, select the tools you want to turn on or turn off and toggle the appropriate switches to On tools_onor Off tools_off . The new setting saves automatically.

Deactivating a tool does not delete any items or user data inside the tool, it simply hides the tool from your course offering. If you turn the tool back on, the data is restored.

Before disabling a tool, be aware of the following:

  • If you set Release Conditions based on the disabled tool, they are not enforced as long as the tool remains disabled.
  • Grade items associated with the disabled tool remain but you must manually update them in the grade book.
  • Quicklinks to the disabled tool’s items persist but a “No Resource Found” message is displayed when they are followed. You should remove any related Quicklinks when you deactivate a tool.
